Pricing Updates September 2023

What's changing for new customers in September, and why.

Updated over 2 years ago

If you're reading this and you already are a customer don't panic. We're not changing your price. You'll be able to continue using Kno on your current plan as you do today with no change in price.

In September we'll roll out the following pricing:

Also note we're keeping and updating our "accelerator" plan. Details here.

What's our goal here?

We're not venture backed. We don't have millions of dollars in the bank waiting to be spent. That means we need to be efficient.

Our goal is to make sure we're giving the right features to the right customers to ensure you get a better experience, and to ensure we can operate in a more capital efficient manner.

We're building a customer insights platform designed to last, and adjusting our pricing to get us there is a critical component of this journey.

What we're keeping the same:

  • Again, if you're on a plan it's not changing. Just improving a bit. :)

  • There will still be no usage fees, or fees based on the size of your business. You choose which features work best for your business, regardless of size.

  • The free plan isn't changing! We actually ran a Twitter and LinkedIn poll. The people said limit it to 1,000 responses, but we decided for now we'll leave it alone. No promises on how that looks in 2024 but we'll communicate well ahead of any changes.

  • The price isn't going up if you choose an annual plan, but will be slightly higher for month-to-month subscriptions.

What's changing:

  • We're better orienting features to meet the size of the businesses that use each plan. In general we see the "Analyst" plan as being best fit for brands doing $250k - $5m in annual revenue, and Pro for brands doing $5m+ in annual revenue.

  • New signups on Analyst will be limited to a single survey, but the survey will allow for an unlimited number of questions (currently limited to 12).

  • Our audience feature will be updated to have "standard" and "custom" audiences. Right now you can build whatever audiences you want, but you have to build them. That extra complexity means audiences aren't being used to their full capacity. We're restricting custom building to Pro and Enterprise, and enabling an easier-to-use set of audiences on all tiers. This should improve usability while reducing complexity for everyone.

  • We're changing how we handle integrations. Here's the thing - integrations are expensive to build and maintain. If they're not a driver of revenue, they're never going to be a focus for us, and we want them to be a bigger focus. We also want brands to be thoughtful about what they're integrating. From a data privacy standpoint and general usage standpoint integrations add a lot of complexity and risk that's not always necessary.

  • We will no longer do MSAs, security forms, or mNDAs without an enterprise plan agreement. It's too expensive for our team to execute on a small month-to-month billing agreement, and we don't want to cut corners in servicing your business.

  • We're focusing more on annual plans. This is intended to create a better partnership between us and your brand. By committing to an annual plan we're both better aligned at the outset to make sure you're getting the maximum value out of KnoCommerce.

  • We're creating classifications of reporting, question types, integrations, and audiences. The reality is that a ton of the functionality we offer isn't very useful for brands that receive less than 1,000 monthly responses. Including those features on lower tier plans a) increases complexity, b) isn't helping anyone, and c) is expensive for us to maintain. We believe really focusing our plans to include what is actually useful will be a net benefit for everyone.

What new features & innovations are coming this year?

  • We're doing a full rebuild of reporting. Over the last 6 months we've rearchitected the backend data infrastructure. Legit we can load 100,000 survey responses in less than 1/2 a second. New visualizations are coming and should be available before the pricing update in September. Note, these new visualizations won't be available on the free version.

  • We're making benchmarks useful. Last summer we quietly rolled out "benchmarks". It's essentially a data set of (now) over $100,000,000 in monthly revenue associated to our key "benchmarkable" questions. It's been too slow and not interesting enough to use but that's changing soon.

  • We're adding an exciting new question type. It's a secret. πŸ‘€

  • We're rebuilding audiences to be easier to use. Our "standard" audiences will be super simple and easy to use. Plus we'll be opening up multi-criteria custom audiences to customers on our Pro & Enterprise plans. Also better reporting of audiences are coming.

  • We're adding "autocomplete" search. Any text entry will have the ability to pull from a list of responses to make it easier for the customer to answer the question.

  • We're building an exciting new beta. We don't think of ourselves as a survey company. We think of KnoCommerce as a customer insights platform. The next evolution of our business goes well beyond surveys into some exciting new insight territory. More to come.

Accelerator Plan updates

In all honesty, we don't think our accelerator plan has been a great experience for our customers, or for us, so we're making some changes to better align incentives.

  • We're changing the features you get to "Pro" instead of "Analyst" to provide more functionality. This lets smaller brands take full advantage of our platform without needing to pay full price.

  • We're requiring an application process. In order to qualify you'll need to show less than $250,000 in revenue last 12 months. You can re-apply annually.

  • There will now be one annual price. The annual price ensures we're able to support your brand with onboarding. Previously we haven't invested enough time in helping our Accelerator plan customers onboard, and it shows.
