Shopify Tagging Integration

How to use Shopify Flow and KnoCommerce to push tags into your Shopify platform for orders and customers

Updated over a week ago

This integration requires use of Shopify Flow. To learn more about setting up Shopify Flow, please see our Shopify Flow documentation.

Overview

Shopify Tags and Metafields can be an incredibly powerful tool for your brand, the agency that you work with, apps that you have added to your tech stack, or analytics tools.

Regardless of which features you find to be most important or useful, we want our survey data to be available to you in those formats. We've built our Shopify Flow integration to give you the ability to automatically tag orders and customers or add Metafields with the survey questions and survey responses that your customers have submitted.

Setting Up Shopify Flow

To learn more about how to set up Shopify Flow for your KnoCommerce account, including configuring per-question settings, please see our Shopify Flow documentation.

Note: Shopify Flow is currently only supported for Pro customers and above.

Configuring the Flow

Within Shopify Flow, you'll have the ability to select various different types of tagging events. Check out our demo below to get started, or walk through the individual steps below:

Demo

1. Head to Shopify Flow

Visit your Shopify Flow app

2. Click on "Create Workflow"

After landing on the Shopify Flow page, click on "Create Workflow"

3. Select the KnoCommerce trigger

Currently, we only support one trigger event for "New Survey Response"

4. Select the Shopify Tagging event

Shopify Flow supports various types of tagging events, including customer, order, and product tags. Select the Action that best fits your use case.

5. Select the variable to insert as a tag

Shopify Flow will ask you to start typing a tag name. In this section, click on the </> icon to pull from your KnoCommerce response.

Once that modal opens, select:

  • knoQuestionResponse and then...

  • Question and then...

  • Value

This will pull in the KnoCommerce question response value into the "Tags" field, effectively creating that as a tag within Shopify.

Be sure to add the value by clicking on the plus sign below:

6. Turn on workflow

That's it! You're all set to go live with tagging in Shopify.

Troubleshooting

Here are a few common issues you might encounter, and how to get those resolved!

  • Workflow isn't triggering

    • Be sure that you've correctly set up Shopify Flow within KnoCommerce. This includes setting up KnoCommerce's Shopify Flow settings for the specific question you want to push to Shopify. Check out our Shopify Flow documentation for guidance.

  • The workflow is starting, but not completing

    • If you're using a conditional step between the Trigger and Action, you should review your Shopify Flow logs to see if there's any issue with how you've configured those conditions. Often, conditions may not evaluate as expected, causing actions to skip or apply incorrectly. Learn more about monitoring your Shopify Flow runs.
