Archive Survey Questions & Data

Learn how to archive questions on your survey to remove them from live surveys and keep all historic data

This feature is designed for brands who no longer want to ask a specific question, but want to keep the historic data accessible within the KnoCommerce Reports pages. Archive Surveys

Since KnoCommerce's pricing plans are based on the number of active surveys, we do not have a specific archive feature for surveys. To prevent a survey from displaying to customers, simply unpublish it from your confirmation page (either Shopify or Custom). You will retain all data for unpublished surveys on the Reports page.

Archive Questions

Brands tend to archive questions for a few different reasons:

  1. questions for a specific season are no longer relevant (i.e. Is this purchase a gift for Christmas/Hanukkah/the Holidays?)

  2. questions for specific product research are no longer relevant (i.e. What pattern/color scheme would you like to see us develop next?)

  3. questions that you want to update to a new version (i.e. How did you hear about us? -> Before you go...how did you FIRST hear about our brand? with updated answer options)

To utilize the feature, go to the Surveys menu in KnoCommerce...

Then access the Surveys page directly.


Once on the surveys page, click the three-dot menu next to the survey that has questions you want to archive, then click Edit.


Once inside the survey editor for your survey, find the question you want to archive and click the 'X' in the top right corner for the particular question.


The following modal will pop up. Select 'Archive Instead' to retain access to all historic data for that question.

NOTE: To learn more about what will happen if you delete questions from your survey (instead of archiving them) please look at our Survey Edits & Changes help doc.


After you click the 'Archive Instead' button, the question will disappear from your survey builder, but you MUST save the survey for the changes to take effect. Once you click 'Save', your data for that question will be archived.


Viewing Archived Data

To view data that has been archived, navigate to the main Surveys -> Reports page. Once there, click the Show Archived Questions button.

Archived Data will appear on the current survey (you may need to change the date range to capture the archived data). Live questions will have a normal/dark appearance and archived questions will have the File icon next to their question text and will be slightly grayed out in appearance.
