Using ChatGPT or other AI tools to Analyze Your Survey Data

While KnoCommerce provides raw survey exports, you can use ChatGPT to quickly highlight trends, create summaries, and even draft reports for your team.

Step 1: Export Your Data

  • Go to your Kno dashboard.

  • Click Surveys → select your survey.

  • Select the date range you need the responses for.

  • Click on the Export Responses tab.

Step 2: Upload Into ChatGPT

  • Open ChatGPT (paid plan recommended, as free accounts may restrict file uploads).

  • Upload the CSV file.

Step 3: Use Targeted Prompts

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • High-Level Trends

    • “Summarize the top 5 most common responses to How did you first hear about us? and their percentages.”

    • “What are the top acquisition sources customers selected in What brought you to our site today?

  • Audience Segmentation

    • “Break down attribution responses by age range. Are younger customers discovering us differently than older ones?”

    • “Segment survey results by country and summarize differences in discovery channels.”

  • Purchase Behavior

    • “Cross-tab: How long did you know about us before making your first purchase? with Order total to see patterns.”

    • “Highlight differences in survey responses between first-time and repeat buyers.”

  • Report-Ready Summaries

    • “Write me a one-paragraph executive summary of the survey results.”

    • “List 3 key insights and 2 recommendations for the marketing team based on these survey responses.”

  • Product-Level Insights

    • “For survey responses mentioning Taste in What could we have done to improve your experience?, what are the top 10 SKUs purchased by those users?”

    • “Compare product variant responses (size, color, model) across different demographics.”

    • “Summarize the top 5 most selected variants (size, color, etc.) in attribution surveys.”

“You are a marketing analyst. I uploaded a CSV export from our KnoCommerce survey. Handle multi-select questions that may appear as multiple columns or as a single column with delimited values. Treat blanks as null.

  1. Give me the top 5 insights with supporting percentages.

  2. Compare new vs returning buyers.

  3. Segment by country and age range.

  4. Identify top SKUs for customers who mentioned ‘Taste’ as a factor.

  5. Provide 3 actions for paid social and 3 for CRM based on the findings.”

Tips:

  • Use ChatGPT to summarize, segment, or compare — it’s very good at spotting patterns.

  • Always sense-check results if you’re presenting them externally.
