How to Connect KnoCommerce to Claude via MCP

The KnoCommerce MCP connector lets you ask Claude questions about your store's data directly from Claude.ai — things like weekly trends, survey performance, and customer insights — without switching tabs or exporting reports.

Updated yesterday

🚧 This feature is currently in Beta. The KnoCommerce MCP connector is available now, but it may change. We're actively gathering feedback — please reach out if you run into anything unexpected.

This guide walks you through the full setup: creating an API key in KnoCommerce and connecting it to Claude in a few clicks.

ℹ️ Who can use this? The MCP connector is available to accounts on the Analyst plan and above — anyone with API access. You'll also need a Claude.ai paid plan that supports custom connectors.

⚠️ Zero Data Retention notice. Because this integration is in beta, connections made via the KnoCommerce MCP are not currently eligible for Anthropic's Zero Data Retention policy. This means Claude (Anthropic) may use data passed through the connector per their standard privacy policy. By connecting, your brand accepts responsibility for any data shared. If this is a concern, please consult your team before proceeding.

Part 1 — Generate an API Key in KnoCommerce

  1. Open Settings. In your KnoCommerce dashboard, click Settings in the left navigation.

  2. Go to Integrations → API Access. Inside Settings, select Integrations, then click the API Access tab.

  3. Create a new API key. Click New API Key. Give it a recognizable name (e.g., "Claude MCP").

  4. Set the App URL. In the App URL field, enter: mcp.knocommerce.com

  5. Grant all permissions. Enable every permission toggle so Claude can read all account data.

  6. Save and copy your credentials. After saving, you'll see a Client ID and Client Secret. Copy both — you'll need them in Part 2.

⚠️ Keep your Client Secret safe. It will only be shown once. Store it in a password manager before navigating away.

Part 2 — Add the Connector in Claude

  1. Open Claude Settings. In claude.ai, click your profile avatar (top right) and select Settings.

  2. Go to Connectors. In the Settings sidebar, click Connectors, then Add Custom Connector.

  3. Enter the MCP server URL. Type the following in the connector URL field: mcp.knocommerce.com Make sure the URL follows the formatting shown in the dialog exactly.

  4. Enter your credentials. Expand Advanced (or scroll to the credential fields) and fill in:

    • Client ID — paste the value from Part 1

    • Client Secret — paste the value from Part 1

  5. Click Add, then Connect. Claude will redirect you to an authorization screen. Enter your Client Secret and Client ID once more and click Connect. 📸

  6. Configure permissions. On the next screen, review the permissions Claude is requesting. Select Allow Always for each permission so Claude can pull data on demand without re-prompting.

You're connected! The Kno Commerce connector will now appear as active in Claude's Connectors settings. Claude can access your account data whenever you start a conversation.

Part 3 — Start Asking Claude About Your Data

With the connector active, you can ask Claude natural-language questions about your KnoCommerce account. Claude will call the MCP, fetch your data, and respond inline.

Example prompts to get started:

  • "What are the main trends you are seeing this week?"

  • "Which post-purchase survey questions have the highest response rate?"

  • "What's driving the spike in attribution to email this month?"

  • "Give me an overview of my top traffic sources for the last 30 days."

ℹ️ Tip: When Claude runs a tool call (e.g., "Getting account overview"), you'll see a brief loading indicator before the response appears. This is normal — Claude is fetching live data from your account.

Troubleshooting

The connector isn't connecting. Double-check that the App URL in your KnoCommerce API key is set to exactly mcp.knocommerce.com — no trailing slash. Also, confirm your Client ID and Client Secret were copied without extra spaces.

Claude isn't finding my data. Go to Claude Settings → Connectors and confirm the KnoCommerce connector shows as Connected. If it shows as disconnected, click it and re-authorize using the steps above.

I need to revoke access. You can revoke Claude's access at any time by going to KnoCommerce Settings → API Access and deleting the API key, or by removing the connector from Claude's Settings → Connectors page.

What does "not eligible for Zero Data Retention" mean? Anthropic's Zero Data Retention (ZDR) policy means API inputs and outputs are never stored on Anthropic's servers. Because the MCP connector is in beta, this safeguard is not yet available for it — meaning Anthropic's standard data handling policies apply. Your brand is responsible for ensuring this aligns with your data governance requirements before connecting. You can read more in Anthropic's privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy
