Audience Overview

Audiences, in short, give your brand different ways to segment your survey data, either by specifying who sees particular surveys or by filtering data that you've already collected.

They are built on the Audience page (Surveys -> Audiences) in your brand account and only require an audience name, an audience type, an operator, and a value to get set up.

Building Your Audience

Name & Type

Choose an Audience Name to differentiate this audience from others and choose the Audience Type you want to use. The current list of available Audience Types are shown below:

Customer Data

  1. Lifetime Order Count

Order Data

  1. City

  2. Zip/postal code

  3. State

  4. Country

  5. Native Language Name

  6. Product ID

Survey Data

  1. Survey Completed

  2. Survey Question Answered

  3. Templated Question

Source/Medium Data (only available as Filtering Audiences)

This data is not available at the time of purchase and cannot be used as a Targeting Audience for surveys. It is best used on the Reports page for filtering/segmenting data that has already been collected.

Operator

Once you choose a name and the Audience Type, we automatically provide the logic operators available for you to choose in a dropdown selection menu. For instance, Lifetime Order Count gives you the following logic operators once you choose that particular Audience Type.

Values

Then you submit the values that you want to include within the audience. Some audiences only permit one value, like Lifetime Order Count, Native Language Name, or Survey Completed.

However, some audience types (like Product ID, City, or Country) give you the ability to submit multiple Values within the same Audience definition by pressing the ‘Tab’ button after entering each value. An audience that uses multiple values like this uses ‘OR’ logic (any customer/order that meets any of the value criteria). See below for an example.

Saved/Live Audiences

Once you create your audience definitions, click Save and the Audience will build itself in the background. Once built, the Audience card on the Audiences page will tell you the following:

  • Audience name

  • total number of customers in the Audience

  • Active/Inactive audience status

  • number of connected surveys

Audience Use Cases

Once you have built your audiences, you can segment your survey response data in two different ways.

Targeting audiences allow you to choose what segments of your customers get to see specific surveys.

Filtering audiences allow you to segment the data that you have already collected on the Reports page.

Please check out our Targeting Audiences or Filtering Audiences help docs for more information.

Audience Type Requests

We are always looking to improve our platform and make our product more useful/helpful for you and your brand. If you are unsure how to create a particular audience, uncertain how to accomplish a specific use case, or do not see the audience type listed that you would like, please reach out to our support team so that we can assist you in building the Audience you would like or add the Audience Type to our list of feature requests.
